Springtime

Last week end it was very warm(70's).  This week we have had some very good rain.  That combination has made the garden really pop with color.  Today I did more weeding as that same combination is great for weeds.  The good thing is that they come out fairly easily after rain.  I hope you enjoy the pictures and have a wonderful week-end!

This is Euphorbia Polychroma.

Doronicum "Little Leo"

Beautiful white daffodils

This is Guinevere English Primrose.

This is Green Lace Primrose.  These two are perennial .

It's time for the bird bath!

This was the project of the week for the SBA.  We already have a clematis in one pot and are now considering what to put in the other pot.  I think he did a fabulous job.  I can't wait till this doorway is covered with lovely vines!

John Foster Revisited

Just a quick blog to show you the new improved John Foster.  I replanted the tree , added the vines, and put in a few birds.  I hope by the end of this evening I'll be ready to add his name.  We have had a busy few days.  Today I worked at the school and yesterday we went plant shopping in the rain.  That's actually a good time to do it.  On warm sunny day the garden centers are very crowded.  Yesterday we were almost alone.  Tomorrow, I'll show you the results of my shopping and the SBAs newest project.  Have a great Fri. and thanks so much for looking at my blog
.

John is looking better. Sorry for the blue cast to the photo. I really have trouble getting colors correct. I'm not sure if it is the camera, computer, or ME!

A Major Frog Attack!!

First, a thanks to all of you that have commented on my latest NW pictures, both the lighthouse and Port Townsend. I so appreciate the time you take to comment. Also, a big thanks to those who just look! Some of you that read my blog might not be stitchers so I'm going to explain the word frogging. It means ripping out your work because you made a mistake! I spent all of last night and part of today doing just that! Old John Foster and I had a big problem!!

See the big tree on the left. Notice a darker green vine going up between the house and the tree. Well, on Sat. night I had finished the big tree on the right where you see a big empty space!(identical to the one on the left). Last night I sat down to stitch the vine. I realized quickly that I had a problem, not enough spaces between the house and vine. It was only one space but the vine would have touched either the house or the tree. The mis-count was actually down in that dark green grass. Since I counted off the grass to position the tree , I was one square too close to the house!! The SBA ( an engineer in his former life) tried to see if I could avoid removing the whole tree. We couldn't find a good solution so I spent several hours frogging!!!!!!!

See all that pretty green floss!!!!! Oh, well, tonight will be a new night !

My good news is that my new stash came form JJ's . They had a great spring sale I took advantage and bought some Blackbird Design charts that I just couldn't live without!! I hope you all have a wonderful week and thanks for taking a look!

The Lighthouse

On Sat. the SBA and I volunteered at the lighthouse. We do this once a month from April to Oct. This is about 45 minutes from our house. We had about 90 guests. You are there to give a brief history of the lighthouse and answer any questions folks might have. It's quite a fun thing to do and we love being out at the beach!

This is our newly restored lighthouse. It has been carefully restored to the period of the 1930's.

This is the original watch office built in 1879.

This part is called the fog room and was added in 1900 to accommodate large brass fog horns.

Looking East to the Cascade Mountains across Puget Sound.

There is still snow in the mountains. That means we will not have a water shortage this summer.

Looking North to Whidbey Island.

This was a big treat!!!! This huge sea lion was cruising up and down the shoreline.

I looked out the window and there was Mount Rainier!

Today we went to Tacoma and here is another view of the mountain. Tacoma seems so small compared to the beautiful mountain.
I hope it has been a great week-end for all of you and thank you so much for taking a look!
